How The Offspring “Sold Out”

1994 was the year you couldn’t escape pop-punk, and The Offspring ripped the underground rulebook to shreds. Their third album, Smash, smashed all expectations with stop-start buzzsaw riffs, tales of road rage and messed-up relationships—and suddenly punk was hitting radio and MTV. Fast-forward to 1998 and they did it again with the tongue-in-cheek anthem “Pretty Fly (For a White Guy),” poking fun at wannabe badasses everywhere.

Their journey from sweaty DIY shows to multi-million-selling albums didn’t stop there: follow-ups Ixnay on the Hombre and Americana cemented their pop-punk credentials, and decades later their legacy still echoes in every warped guitar riff and sarcastic sing-along.
