Tiny Desk Brasil Kicks Off with João Gomes

Tiny Desk Brasil made its debut in October at Google’s São Paulo office, blending NPR Music’s know-how with Anonymous Content Brazil and Amabis’s production magic. First up is Pernambuco’s own João Gomes, who went from church choir and rap battles to viral superstar with “Meu Pedaço de Pecado” in 2021. His authentic forró de vaquejada–meets–piseiro style and laid-back DIY beginnings are the perfect fit for the Tiny Desk vibe.

For this special set, João handpicked a dream team of musicians and served up eight tracks—highlighting “Reencontro” and “Deusa de Itamaracá” with fresh arrangements. Expect a few happy mistakes, genuine moments, and all the sertão spirit packed into one unforgettable performance.
