Oklou strips back her sound for Tiny Desk
Just days after touching down in New York with her baby, Parisian artist Marylou Mayniel (aka Oklou) teamed up with an eight-person choir, piano, acoustic guitar and a massive marimba to reimagine four tracks from her debut Choke Enough. Autotune and synths are out – they even used bubble wrap and sticks to whip up fire-like textures.
Joined by arranger Casey MQ, the turtleneck-and-recorder version of “harvest sky” is hauntingly bare, while “blade bird,” “ict” and a brand-new what’s good shine in their new folk-y glow. It’s a cozy, reflective spin on her sonic adventures.
