Oklou’s Stripped-Down Tiny Desk Adventure
Just days after juggling Paris to New York with her five-month-old in tow, Oklou (Marylou Mayniel) landed in D.C. for a Tiny Desk concert that peeled back the layers of her debut album, Choke Enough. Teaming up with arranger Casey MQ and an eight-piece choir, she swapped heavy synths and autotune for piano, acoustic guitar, a massive marimba and even the crackle of bubble wrap to reimagine four tracks live.
In a cozy, intimate set, they dove into “ict” and “blade bird” with folk-inspired warmth, debuted a stripped-down version of the unreleased “what’s good,” and slowed “harvest sky” to a bare, recorder-led lullaby. The result? A deeply reflective, adventurous twist on Oklou’s signature sound.
