NPR Music: Oklou: Tiny Desk Concert

Just days before rolling into NPR’s Tiny Desk, French pop adventurer Oklou flew from Paris with her five-month-old baby to New York, then on to D.C., where she and an eight-piece choir totally reimagined four tracks from her debut album Choke Enough. Swapping heavy synths and autotune for piano, acoustic guitar, a nearly seven-foot marimba and even bubble-wrap crackles, they kept the spirit of sonic adventure alive in an intimate, organic setting.

Joined by arranger and multi-instrumentalist Casey MQ, Oklou strips down “ict” and “blade bird,” debuts the unreleased “what’s good,” and slows “harvest sky” to a bare, recorder-led melody—proving that sometimes, less really is more.
