Oklou jetted from Paris with her five-month-old in tow to NPR’s Tiny Desk, bringing an eight-piece choir and Casey MQ’s crafty arrangements. They stripped back the autotune and synths from her debut album Choke Enough, leaning on piano, acoustic guitar, a giant marimba and even bubble-wrap fire effects for a warm, folksy twist.
In a cozy four-song set—“ict,” “blade bird,” “what’s good” (a brand-new track) and the slowed-down “harvest sky”—Oklou shows how she can morph electronic pop into intimate, acoustic storytelling.
