Oklou jetted in from Paris—baby in tow—to New York, where she and Casey MQ teamed up with an eight-piece choir to strip her debut album’s electronic sheen down to piano, acoustic guitar, marimba (and even bubble-wrap “fire” FX). Over a couple of days they turned synth-pop cuts like “blade bird” and “ict” into hushed, reflective folk, slowed “harvest sky” to a bare recorder-led ballad, and even previewed “what’s good,” a new track headed for the deluxe deluxe Choke Enough.
The Tiny Desk session spotlights Oklou’s voice front and center, backed by lush choir pads and playful percussive textures. It’s a cozy, organic reimagining that trades autotune for intimate craftsmanship—and proves less can be so much more.
