Ghost-Note’s Tiny Desk Concert Ripped It Up
Robert “Sput” Searight kicked things off with a “buckle up!” warning, and Ghost-Note delivered pure funk from start to finish. The percussion powerhouse duo-turned-supergroup—featuring members of Snarky Puppy—warmed up with James Brown– and Sly & the Family Stone–inspired groovers “JB’s Out” and “Move with a Purpose,” before Dominique Xavier Taplin’s spacey keys set the stage for Mackenzie Green’s lush R&B jam “Synesthesia.”
They kept the energy sky-high with “Be Somebody,” a high-octane tribute to the Godfather of Soul, then wrapped things up on a sultry note with “Slim Goodie,” complete with rapid-fire drum solos and vocals that’ll leave you craving your own “Slim Goodie.”
